Following discussions with LUSU, and in response to feedback from students who are concerned with the environmental impact of the ISS printing service. ISS is going to stop printing 'banner pages' on all ISS printers for a trial period.

- The First Trial - the first tiral was in May 2008.

Banner Page Turn-off -Trial Extension
After a successful three day initial trial in May, ISS are now extending the trial to run the printers in the Library and ISS PC Labs without a banner page.
The previous trial ran in May 2008 and received an overwhelmingly positive response from users, so there will now be an extended 5 month trial. The new trial in ISS PC Labs (including the Library) will see the turn off banner pages from the 1st August until 31st December 2008.
There will be monthly reviews of the trial. The review in November will make a recommendation on whether to continue printing without banner pages beyond December.
As a contingency, ISS can reinstate banner pages at short notice on all or selected printers.
Any savings that accrue from not printing the banner page will be reinvested in the printing service.
The First Trial
Between Tuesday 6th and Thursday 8th May all documents printed to ISS Printers will be printed without the standard ISS 'banner' page.
ISS Banner Pages
A 'banner pages' is printed in front of every document (print job) printed on an printer. A banner page:
- 'labels' a 'print job' with the users username.
- separates one 'print job' from another.
- prints out the users available 'print budget'.
- prints out the cost of the 'print job'.

Print Budget Information Available Online
Information about a users print budget is available online at: http://studentinfo.lancs.ac.uk/webpay/.
While the Banner Page Removal Trial is in action, this online page would be convenient way of tracking the amount of remaining print budget.
