Microsoft regularly issue updates/patches to fix bugs and plug 'security holes' in Windows. The security holes are used by worms, viruses and hackers to compromise your system.

It is vital to keep Windows up-to-date with patches.

Microsoft Windows Update

Recently virus attacks have almost brought the University network to a complete halt. It is VITALLY IMPORTANT that all (unmanaged) Windows PCs are kept up-to-date with patches. Fortunately you can update Windows 'online' by following a simple procedure.

How long will it take?

The first time you do the procedure, it may take a 'long time'. Do not be put off - this is IMPORTANT.

How often do I need to update Windows?

Once you have updated your copy of Windows you MUST repeat the update procedure at least once per month. The 'monthly' updates will be quick and easy.
