Multimedia Services
ISS offers various multimedia services.
- IPTV - a trial service multicasting Freeview TV channels over the campus network using 'LU Player'.
- Video Conferencing - a video conferencing service over dedicated telephone lines.
- ISS Podcasts - ISS Podcasts.
The IPTV Trial
IPTV is a multicast TV service that enables staff on campus to view 'Freeview' and free to air satellite TV channels (plus some free radio stations).
Any member of the University on-campus will be able to watch IPTV TV channels in excellent quality on their computer. The channels offered include all the standard BBC TV & Radio stations, the free ITV stations and many other free TV stations.
Licencing
The IPTV trial service is covered by the University licensing terms for all university owned equipment.
Requirements
To use this service you will need:
- a University computer account - the login is by CoSign single sign on.
- the VLC media player which is available from:
- the Add / Remove programs section in the Control Panel on Managed XP PC.
- the web (free): http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
