ISS SmartPhone Service - iPhone

ISS User Services offer a SmartPhone service covering selection, purchase, configuration and user support for it's recommended phones.

The Service is only available for equipment procured with University funds. You must have agreement from your budget holder before requesting this service.

Currently ISS support the use of the NOKIA E71 , Nokia E5 SmartPhone and the iPhone. Please fill in the Smart Phone order form if you would like more information about the service or would like to order a phone.

Setting Up an ISS Purchased iPhone

( Your phone will be set-up for you by an ISS technician - these instructions are for guidance if you are away from the University and unable to get support.)

How do I configure mail, calendar and contacts?

  1. Open Safari on your iPhone
  2. Connect to this page and click on this link to iPhone config files

Now follow the instructions below:

Installing Profile ( ISS purchased iPhones only)

Upon opening the config file you should see this prompt.


Clicking the install button will prompt for confirmation again.

Connecting to Exchange

Enter your e-mail address.


Enter your username in the format "lancs\(username)" e.g. lancs\bloggsj


Next enter your Password


If the exchange server can’t be reached (i.e no connection to eduroam or no mobile signal) then this box is shown.
If ignore is selected then when the connection comes back online the phone will connect with the credentials provided.

 

VPN Set-Up

You don’t need to be connected to the VPN to access the exchange servers.
It is only recommended when connecting to the internet through an unknown wifi hotspot.

Now the credentials for the vpn are needed.

Enter username.


Enter Password


You should now see this verified screen.

 

Your mail, calendar and contacts (personal and global)  should now be available on your iphone/ipod touch.

Adding Wi-Fi

Adding Eduroam (You obviously need to be in range of the eduroam network)
On the Main Screen, click settings


Click Wi-Fi


Click eduroam


Enter credentials then the return button in the bottom right will turn into a blue join button.


User will be prompted to install the certificate, they need to click accept.

 

When joined a blue tick will appear next to eduroam
T to set the proxy for this network the user now needs to click the right facing arrow on the eduroam line.

 

Setting the Proxy

When the arrow is click more settings will be displayed, scroll to the bottom of the page for the http proxy settings.



Click auto and enter http://wwwcache.lancs.ac.uk

 

Connecting via VPN

Main screen again.


Click settings


Click the On/off slider on the VPN line


When connected the slider will display ON and at the top of the screen next to the signal strength is a blue VPN box

 


Removing the Exchange and VPN profile

Should you need to remove the profile

Go to Main Screen, click settings

 

Click General


Scroll down to Profile, then click.


Click the red Remove button


Click Remove, Done!



You can now add another profile again if they wish.
