Web server software is Apache 

www.lancs.ac.uk runs the Apache webserver. The version installed at the time of writing is 2.2.16, but this is subject to change.

Server-Side Includes 

This server supports Server-Side Include, sometimes known as 'SSI' or 'SHMTL'. The Apache website provides an Introduction to Server Side Include.

This server does not allow the exec element in an SSI directive.

PHP Scripting 

This server supports server-side scripting with PHP. The version installed at the time of writing is 5.3.3, but this is subject to change.

ISS are unable to provide any support on programming in PHP. The PHP Website provides documentation and other support material.

PostgreSQL database is available 

The PostgreSQL database manager is available for web applications that require a relational database. The version installed at the time of writing is 8.4.4, but this is subject to change.

ISS are unable to provide any support on programming in SQL. The PostgreSQL Website provides documentation and other support material.

CGI scripting 

Sorry, but CGI scripts are not available on this server. The possible benefits are outweighed by the security and performance problems that would be caused. The Server-Side Include and PHP Scripting facilities provide better functionality.

'mod_perl' scripting 

Sorry, but mod_perl is not available on this server. PHP Scripting facilities provide equivalent functionality.

Frontpage Extensions are not available 

Sorry, but the Microsoft Frontpage Extensions are not available on this server.

ASP scripting is not available 

Sorry, but ASP scripting is not available on this server. PHP Scripting facilities provide equivalent functionality.

MySQL database is available, but PostgreSQL is preferred 

The MySQL database manager is available for web applications that require it. The version installed at the time of writing is 5.0.90, but this is subject to change.

PostgreSQL provides superior functionality, and is the preferred database to use on this server.

ISS are unable to provide any support on programming in SQL. The PostgreSQL Website provides documentation and other support material.
