About Virus Definitions
New threats 'emerge' all the time. The security companies (including Symantec) work out what is happening and write a detection and repair routines to clean the threat off the computer. Symantec call the detection & repair routines a 'virus definitions'. Every week the anti-virus companies distribute a new set of virus definitions. To avoid infection by new viruses you need to update your 'virus definitions' at least once a week.
