Uninstalling Previous AntiVirus Software

Before installing Symantec AntiVirus you need to uninstall any previous anti-virus software.

1. run the uninstall icon provided with the anti-virus package.

Installing Symantec Endpoint Protection

1. get the Symantec Security Software CD from ISS Service Desk in the Learning Zone.
2. ensure that all previous anti-virus software has been removed (see above).
3. put the CD in the drive.
4. open the appropriate 'dmg' file:
   • Mac OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion - Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.1
   • Mac OSX 10.7 Lion - Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.1
   • Mac OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard - Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.1
   • Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard - Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.1
   • Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger - Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.6
5. double click Symantec installer icon.
6. double click on the 'Mac Installer.mpkg'.
7. click 'Continue' then keep clicking 'Continue until you have to agree to the licence terms.
8. click 'Agree'.
9. click 'Install'.
10. type in your Administrator credentials.
11. click 'Install'.
12. click on 'Log Out' when prompted, after the installation has completed.

Running Symantec Endpoint Protection

Symantec Endpoint Protection runs all the time checking 'file opens' and 'file copies' for incoming viruses. If you want to explicitly search your disk or folders for viruses, do the following:

1. click 'Apple' menu then 'System Preferences' option, then 'Symantec Endpoint Protection' sub option - see panel.
2. click on the 'Scan' button and then select the relevant disk/folder - see the disk scanned and any viruses repaired.
3. click on the 'Done' button.
