Successful Chinese Speech Contest Held at Lancaster University

Chinese Speech Contest 2024

Lancaster University Confucius Institute, in collaboration with the Department of Languages and Cultures, organised a Chinese Speech Contest.

The event, held on 13 March, saw enthusiastic participation from contestants who delivered impressive speeches in Mandarin Chinese, fostering friendly exchanges and cultural understanding.

Hosted by Mr Wei Song, a CI Chinese Teacher, the distinguished panel of judges for the contest included Chinese Studies scholar and Head of the Department of Languages and Cultures Dr Derek Hird, the CI Teaching Lead Dr Mengke Li and CI Teaching Fellow Ms Juan Xiao, who meticulously evaluated the performances based on language proficiency, presentation skills, and cultural insights.

After careful consideration, the following contestants were honoured with awards:

First Prize: Mojolaoluwa Olusola-Niyi

Second Prize: Daisy Lord

Third Prize: Femi Akintemi

Special Commendation Award: Reuben Morton

The winners demonstrated exceptional linguistic abilities and cultural awareness, reflecting the dedication and hard work invested in mastering the Chinese language.
