Directions to the Conference
If arriving by rail
On-demand taxi services are available from the railway station outside the north-bound exit. Fares to the Conference Centre average about £7.50 and the journey takes 10-15 minutes depending on traffic.
The bus journey takes roughly 20-25 minutes. The X1 bus service runs from outside the Railway Station to the University every 20 minutes. Buses (numbers 2, 2A, 3 and 4) also leave regularly from Common Garden Street in the city centre. Common Garden Street is a five-minute walk from the railway station: leave the station exit on the south-bound side and turn left to walk down the hill towards Waterstone's. Cross at the lights and then turn right, then turn left just past the covered market. Once on campus, you should alight at the underpass (where all buses stop).
If you choose to use neither Common Garden Street nor to leave direct from the railway station, Lancaster 's main bus station is situated on Damside Street, and the university is served from there by the same numbered buses as above.
For further information call 'Traveline' on 0871 200 22 33.
If arriving by car
Leave the M6 motorway at junction 33 (Lancaster South) and take the A6 north towards Lancaster (Note junction 34 is also signposted Lancaster, but takes you to the wrong side of town). For Lancaster University turn right at the third set of traffic lights on the A6 into the University main drive.
The best car park to use is the visitors' parking on North Drive, accessed by turning left at the roundabout, following the perimeter road round, and then turning left into Rosendale Avenue. Pay and display permits are available there at £5 / day.
More information about parking on campus.
Taxi services
To book a taxi use (01524) 32090; 35666 or 848 848.
Venues
If coming by car or by taxi as above, you will be at the far north end of campus. Walk towards the buildings, until you reach a lengthy pavement with buildings on both sides. The main venues are along this 'spine': with the conference centre (for registration) on the right and the Institute for Advanced Studies on the left. If arriving by bus you will need to climb the stairs from the underpass to Alexandra Square. Cross the Square to leave by the exit in between the large glass-fronted building called the 'Learning Zone' and the 'Involve' office. Head up the 'spine' and the main venues are then on the left (for registration) and right (the IAS).
Maps
An electronic map of Lancaster Campus is available. Venues and their key numbers on the map are: County South (12); John Creed (13); Institute for Advanced Studies (17) and Conference Centre (21), all at the North End of campus.
