14: How to learn about teamwork from observation
and role play
('planning and setting up a business' group activity) |
The following activity requires some group members to observe the rest of the group and to provide them with feedback after the task. Observers should use the advice on sheets R18 and R19 Giving and Receiving Effective Feedback.
Planning and
Setting up a Business.
You and your
partners intend to set up a wine bar. Your group has 20 minutes to put
together a draft plan which will outline how you intend to approach the
bank for a loan.
Make sure that you utilise the skills of all the members of your team.
You will need to decide:
How you make
best use of the limited time
How you organise
yourselves
Who takes on
which role(s)
How you can
best "sell" your business plan to the bank (remembering that more requests
are turned down than accepted!)
To get you started, here are some key issues to include in your draft plan:
· Research
for suitable premises (local views, Council bylaws and attitudes etc)
· Market
research of potential customers
· Financial
viability based on estimated numbers of customers at different times of
day and night
· Staffing
· Pricing
policy for drinks and food
· Research
into suppliers - quality, delivery, terms of payment etc.
After 20 minutes, observers should provide constructive feedback using the guidance on R18 and R19
