GTQ (Geological Time Queries)

This snappily named program is a very simple Visual Basic form.   It allows you to type in any geological date and it will return the geological time period which that date falls in.   The program allows you to choose the level of accuracy when naming the period, from epoch through to stage.  This new version also allows you to select the name of the geological time period that your interested in, and it will present you with the start and end dates for that period.   Again, you are able to select the level of accuracy that you require.  Please note that this version has not yet been updated to take account of the changes in the ICS' new geological time scale (GTS 2004).

This time I've managed to get the setup procedure working properly!   Click on the link below to download a zip file.   If you don't already have WinZip, you can get a free evaluation version here.   You then have to extract the files to a folder of your choice, they will automatically be grouped in a folder called GTQsetup.   Then all you have to do is run the set-up file (setup.exe).   The program will install GTQ v2.0 in the Program Files\GTQ2 folder, and put a folder in your start menu.

Please note, that the setup procedure may need to update some system files, which also means a reboot is necessary.
