For the last 3 years
I have been studying at Lancaster University where, after completing my
undergraduate course in Mathematics, I am in my fourth year at
Lancaster as part of the Statistics and Operational Research with
industry (STOR-i)
program.
My time at undergraduate study was very
rewarding and enjoyable. The opportunity to focus on one subject
appealed to me, as well as meeting lots of like-minded people made the
experience fulfilling; I had never been in an environment where people
willingly talked about maths before.
Postgraduate study has given me the
chance to take a broader perspective of the work I have done and I find
the added emphasis on the practical use of the work I am undertaking is
a healthy reminder of what I may choose to do in the future.
While studying is naturally a large part
of my life, outside of my course I enjoy reading, watching movies and
playing a range of sports
including football, badminton and korfball. When I first enrolled at
university I
was eager to try new things and korfball, as a relatively obscure
sport, provided me the perfect chance to do so.
I have been an active
member of the Lancaster University Korfball Club for four years and as
well as contributing as part of the executive committee for two of
them, first as Safety Officer then as Treasurer, I continue to attend
training and represent the university at tournaments around Britain. I
was voted player of the year by my fellow teammates for the 09-10
season.
