General Information

College and Residences
Based in University House, College and Residences is responsible for the management of the University’s accommodation portfolio, as well as the co-ordination of aspects of the college system. The Head of Department, Residence Manager and a variety of support staff are based in this office.

Student Accommodation
There are in excess of 6,500 bedspaces on campus at Bailrigg, located in each of the eight undergraduate colleges and the Graduate College. Much of the accommodation has been built or refurbished since 2003 in collaboration with the University Partnership Programme. While the University retained management responsibility for the accommodation, UPP deal with both routine and major maintenance of their own buildings. Maintenance of the retained residential estate remains the responsibility of the University. Chancellor’s Wharf in the city itself is also University owned and managed.

A locally based Residence Officer, (and assistants in some areas), is responsible for the day to day management of the accommodation and may be contacted with any queries. Contact details are on our website.

A variety of options are now available to students, ranging from basic standard rooms with shared bathroom facilities, to en-suite rooms, self-contained studios and campus townhouses.

An online application system now allows students to apply for accommodation and college membership, and the interface with our computer system allows us to make offers by email, which in turn demand the online payment of deposits and acceptance of the terms of residence. The facility is also compatible with continuing students applying for accommodation in subsequent years.

Family Accommodation
The University manages 120 family flats across campus for students that require more than just a single study bedroom, to live with their partner/family while they are a student.

Marketing and Publicity
College and Residences is responsible for producing a variety of college and accommodation guides for use online, and in hard copy for open days. A Residents’ Handbook containing terms and conditions of residence is delivered to every room. The department is also responsible for co-ordinating Freshers’ Week, and producing the guides that are sent out to new starters prior to arrival. The accommodation website also falls within the Publicity Officer’s remit.
