Postgraduate Research
At the heart of our mission is our aim to pursue research at the highest international level, create new knowledge and share the benefits of this with our students, partners and users of research. If you come to Lancaster you will be joining a University that is in the research elite in the UK and among the best in the world and this will stand you in good stead as your future career develops.
We foster a distinctive and holistic approach to research which brings together Academics from different disciplines to share their expertise and make positive impact in solving many serious global challenges that are increasingly shaping our everyday lives. Researchers at Lancaster are involved in large scale teams which cross institutional and international boundaries. Understanding the impact of religion in society, tackling climate change and ensuring life-long health and wellbeing are just some of critical challenges that our researchers strive to meet, while meeting the high ethical standards which underpin everything we do.
Lancaster trains innovative people through government funded doctoral and postgraduate training centres in computing, design and management, statistics and operational research and across the whole range of social sciences. These are closely aligned with the needs and goals of business and industry to ensure the relevance of the programmes and to encourage technology exchange and early adoption of emerging technologies, processes and ideas. Lancaster works with more than 1,000 businesses per year.
Our staff are leading figures in their fields and we pride ourselves in our commitment to recognising the needs of our students and delivering an experience that gives the knowledge and skills needed for our students to become leaders in their own right. The University is fully committed to the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers and has put in place an Action Plan to support the full implementation of the Concordat at Lancaster.
