the accommodation ...

There are around 115 self-contained flats on campus that are suitable for couples and families. These compare favourably with family homes in the city itself, and your rent also includes all utility charges, including heating, electricity and water. Your contents are insured to the value of £6000 as well.

Living in the campus accommodation gives you the convenience of living close to your place of study, and you don't need to worry about travel costs, which typically costs around £300 per student for the academic year (or over £500 per non-student).

flat leases

The leases on the family flats are all 50 weeks, running from 29 September 2012 to 16 September 2013, and as with all our accommodation the rents are inclusive of utility costs. Please note that when you accept the offer of a flat you are committing yourself to the full period of the lease. The new tenant must be acceptable to the University and not vacating another university residence.

council tax

Council Tax is a local tax payable to the local council. Full-time students are exempt, but if other adult non-students are living with you (your partner or adult children) then you may be liable to pay it. The City Council will send you a form which you must complete, even if you think you are not liable: this is a legal requirement. Specific advice about your own circumstances can be sought from Lancaster City Council at ctax@lancaster.gov.uk.

applications

Allocations are made according to availability and suitability of accommodation: Those with one young child will usually be offered one bedroom accommodation. You must provide details of your partner and/or children, as only the people that you include in your application can live in the property. If we are not able to offer family accommodation, you may be referred for single person accommodation. We will hold your family application details on file for 6 months and will contact you if a suitable property becomes available at a later date. We advise that you find suitable accommodation before bringing your family to Lancaster.
