Introduction from VC
I should like to welcome all visiting organisations, alumni and students to this Careers Fair at Lancaster University. The range and type of work-related opportunities available for investigation is extensive, with support for students provided by a programme of workshops taking place throughout the day. To the undergraduates (and postgraduates) taking part in the Fair, I urge you to make the most of this event. It will be of particular use to you in developing your understanding of what employers of many kinds expect of you as possible recruits, in honing some of your self-marketing skills and in generally adding to your knowledge of employability as you prepare for formal career-planning and job-hunting. To the employers, organisations and our alumni, it is a real pleasure to see so many of you on campus to make contact with our students, for whom this event is an invaluable opportunity to talk to you about your vacancies, work, placements and – whether as potential graduate recruits, vacation scheme or project recruits, as community volunteers, or researchers of individual occupations. The event is organised by our careers service (CEEC), the Centre for Employability, Enterprise and Careers with active help from the Alumni Development Office, Postgraduate Admissions, and the Lancaster University Volunteering Unit. It is designed to provide organisations with a platform for the promotion of their vacancies and information about their businesses and students with the chance to discuss these in an informal but personal setting. I know that you will all have a productive, informative and very enjoyable day.
