Support for Disabled Students
The Disabilities Service here at Lancaster University is an excellent source of support and advice for students with disabilities and other support needs throughout their student life at Lancaster. SKILL is a national organisation which promotes opportunities for people with any kind of disability in post-16 education, training and employment. Their website offers a wealth of information including issues around funding, legislation, disclosure, finding suitable vacancies and marketing yourself to employers. www.skill.org.uk The following websites offer additional help and advice: www.afbp.org national charity that provides practical support to blind and partially sighted people, through work, housing, leisure and support. www.arberryprofile.co.uk an online magazine aimed at students with disabilities www.employ-ability.org.uk a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to assisting people with all disabilities into employability www.disabilitynow.org.uk includes vacancy information in disability related fields and employers targeting disabled applicants www.disabilitytoolkits.ac.uk developed by the University of Manchester Careers Service to help students with disabilities access work experience and placements www.jobability.com vacancies with employers with a commitment to disabled job seekers.
