Mitigation Policy
At some point in your university career, you may experience times when for various reasons you were not able to perform to the best of your academic ability. The academic departments have a mitigation procedure for such instances, where they may take into consideration your circumstances when reviewing your marks, offering deadline extensions or the possibility of re-sitting exams. Often to back up your mitigating circumstances, your department may require some evidence to back up what you have told them.
The counselling service has a policy as part of supporting students who have mitigating circumstances. The counselling service will provide a letter of evidence for a student where there has been an ongoing relationship with the counselling service prior to the time when mitigation is being requested. This involves having attended counselling for 3 or more sessions prior to a letter being supplied. Unfortunately letters can not be written where there has been no engagement with our services.
