Emergency Loans

Student Funding Service

We may be able to offer an emergency loan to UK home students in financial difficulty where students have no alternative source of funds and are:-

a) experiencing delays with their government funding (new and continuing students) or
b) experiencing financial difficulty (usually students would then apply, or have already submitted, an application to the Access to Learning Fund)

Please note emergency loans are:-

  • Available by student appointment only, this usually requires 24 hours notice.
  • Given only where all other available funds have been exhausted.
  • Subject to evidence from your bank of current balance / overdraft level on the day of your appointment. A cash machine mini statement balance slip is acceptable.
  • Help provided is only towards food and basic travel costs (@ £50 p/week). We do not provide payment of any others expenses (e.g. accommodation/deposits/field trips etc). If you cannot pay your accommodation you will need to try and arrange deferment of rent payments with your University accommodation officer or off-campus landlord directly.
  • The value of any emergency loans outstanding and overdue may prevent subsequent loans. The total value of loans given in any academic year is also limited.

To make an appointment for an emergency loan telelphone The Base: 01524 (5)92525.

Colleges

Your college office may be able to offer an emergency loan (£50-£100) from college funds if you are in financial difficulty. Please note loans are not provided at the same time from both sources. Please contact your College Administrator.

Repayment of loans

Loans need to be repaid by the due date stated on the loan agreement you sign. If you cannot repay then you should contact the relevant office in advance of the repayment date and explain the reasons for non payment. Loans which are not cleared at the year end will always prevent re-enrolement / graduation.

You can repay your loan by telephone with a debit card. Tel: 01524 (5)92050 or on-line at: https://www.webpayments.lancs.ac.uk

If you require help with general living costs you might like to consider an application to the Access to Learning Fund (ALF), please see menu on the left.
