Work and Study

Many students find that their funding doesn't stretch as far as they'd like and choose to work part time to supplement their income.

It's important in doing so to balance academic requirements with the need to earn extra funds. It is recommended that you should not work in paid employment for more than 12-14 hours a week during term time. Studies by the DfES have shown that students’ working between 15-20 hours per week thought it negatively affected their studies. The National Union of Students recommend an ideal maximum of 10-15 hours per week.

Please note that there may be other sources of help which don't require you to work or which don't take any extra part time income you do earn into account before giving you additional financial assistance. e.g. The Access to Learning Fund (ALF) - see 'University Funding ' from the main menu

The Student Union offers a "job shop" service and information on places offering vacancies see: http://careers.lancs.ac.uk/

There are also a range of employment agencies in town which may be able to help you find work. These can be found through http://www.yell.co.uk.
