Tuition Fee Loan - Repayment

The loans you take out to cover your tuition fees start to accrue interest from the date the University receives the funds. The interest is set at the rate of inflation so that in real terms you only repay what you have borrowed. The interest rate is determined by the UK retail price index (inflation rate) and is set annually by the UK Parliament.

You only start repayment of fee loans in the April following graduation, providing your are earning above the threshold. For further details click here.

E.g. If you settle in the UK the repayment threshold is £15,000 (this will be £21,000 for 2012 entry students onwards). The repayment rate is 9% of any income above this amount. For example if earning £16,000 the difference is £1,000 and you would repay 9% of this over the year or £90, which equates to only £7.50 per month.

*The repayment period varies depending on debt and salary changes.
