Events for International Students

During Intro Week there are many sessions that are designed to help you make the most of your time at Lancaster . You'll find them all listed in the

You are welcome to attend any of the general Intro Week events, however we have listed below some presentations which are designed especially to help international (including EU) students and we do hope you will be able to attend these.

 

Monday 28th September The International Student's Reception

The Great Hall 6.00pm - 7.30pm

All international (including EU) students are invited to a Reception at which the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Lancaster University will formally welcome you to the UK and Lancaster . There will be refreshments and plenty of opportunity to meet other new international students.

 

Thursday 1st October International Students' Orientation

All Sessions in the George Fox Building (Lecture Theatre 1)

The International Student Advisory Service invite you to the following sessions, which will provide information about living and studying at Lancaster. You are welcome to attend all these sessions or just those that are of particular interest to you.

11:00-11:30 Tea & coffee available in George Fox Foyer

11:30-11:45

The International Student Advisory Service

Presentation on a wide range of support available for international (including

EU) students.

11:45-12:15

Managing your Money

Information about costs in the UK, advice about where to shop in Lancaster, insurance, avoiding fines, driving in the UK and other useful tips.

12:15-13:00

Health and well-being

Presentations on how to access the UK's National Health Service and information about the University's Nurse Unit and Counselling Services.

13:00-13:45 Lunch Break (Free time)

13:45-14:30

Getting used to life in Britain

Making the cultural adjustment to living in the UK. The session will cover recognising and dealing with culture shock, information and tips about British culture.

14:30-15:15

Life as an international student - A personal journey

Session exploring how to keep happy and avoid pitfalls, including recognising the importance of building friendships and identifying what matters to you?

Participation from University staff and current international students.

15:15-15:30 Refreshment break: George Fox Foyer

15:30-16:15

The UK's academic and learning culture

What every international student should know about studying in the UK.

Advice and information about the UK academic learning environment and study skills support at Lancaster University.

16:15-16:45

Working in the UK

Practical advice about working in the UK during and after your studies.

Session to include information about your legal entitlements, the work visa and UK recruitment culture.

Sunday 4th October Free coach tour of local area, including Williamson Park and Morecambe Bay

1.00pm-4.00pm

Free coach tour of Lancaster 's surrounding areas - perfect for tired and jet-lagged new international students!

Places on the coach are limited, so register for your place and collect your ticket from the Student Services, A21 University House during Intro Week.

The Coach will leave promptly at 1.00pm from the Underpass (down the steps near Nat West Bank) and bring you back to campus at around 4.00pm.
