International Students’ Evening – Wednesday 3rd October
19:30-22:30: New international and EU students are invited to the International Students’ Evening in the Great Hall Complex, where there will be welcoming speeches from the Vice-Chancellor, LUSU and the International Student Advisory Service. The University’s clubs and societies will then entertain you with their talents for the rest of the evening.
International Student Orientation – Thursday 4th October
09:15 - 13:00: All sessions are held in the George Fox Building, Lecture Theatre 1. The International Student Advisory Service invites you to the following sessions, which will provide information about living and studying at Lancaster University. You are welcome to attend all these sessions or just those that are of particular interest to you. There will also be many other exhibitors displaying information in the George Fox foyer throughout the morning.
09:15: Exhibitor stands will open.
09:30: Welcome from Professor Steve Bradley, Pro-Vice Chancellor for International Students.
09:35: The International Student Advisory Service and Student Based Services: Presentation on a wide range of support available for international students (including EU) and an explanation of how to use 'The Base'. This session will also include important information you need to know about your visa conditions.
09:50: Safety and security: tips and guidance to ensure your stay in Lancaster and the Uk is a safe one.
10:10: Managing your Money: Information about costs in the UK, advice about where to shop in Lancaster, insurance, avoiding fines, driving in the UK and other useful tips.
10:30: Health and well-being: Presentations on how to access the UK’s National Health Service and information about the welfare and counselling services.
10:50: Getting used to life in Britain: Making the cultural adjustment to living in the UK. The session will cover recognising and dealing with culture shock, information and tips about British culture.
11:10: Break and networking opportunity - Brunch and refreshments will be served including fruit, croissants, muffins, fruit juice, tea and coffee.
11:40: Lancaster University Students’ Union (LUSU) – Find out about how LUSU works, how you can be involved and the work they do.
12:00: Life as an international student – A personal journey: Some tips and insights from current international students.
12:20: The UK’s academic and learning culture: What every international student should know about studying in the UK. Advice and information about the UK academic learning environment and study skills support at Lancaster University.
12:40: Working in the UK: Practical advice about working in the UK during and after your studies. Session to include information about your legal entitlements, work related visas and UK recruitment culture.
