Trip to Lancaster Town Hall
Monday 30th January from 6pm
The Right Worshipful the Mayor & Mayoress of Lancaster, Councillor Paul and Mrs Dee Woodruff invite 35 Lancaster University international students to join them for a tour of Lancaster Town Hall including the Mayor’s Parlour, the court room and the cells. This is your opportunity to learn about the history of Lancaster, the role of the Mayor and the work undertaken by the local council. The event will be held on Monday 30th January 2012 from 6pm for approximately 90 minutes. Light refreshments will also be served. Transportation will not be provided so it is your responsibility to travel to the Town Hall in the centre of Lancaster. As this event is limited, places will be offered on a first come, first served basis. If you are interested then please go to The Base in University House to sign up.

Lancaster Rotary Dinner
Tuesday 28th February 7pm – 9.45pm
The Lancaster Rotary Club are hosting an International Students’ Evening at Greaves Park restaurant http://www.greavespark.co.uk/ on Tuesday 28th February 2012 for students of Lancaster University and the University of Cumbria. This will start at 7pm and finish at approximately 9.45pm.This is an opportunity to meet members of the local Rotary Club and learn about the work they do in the local community and the work of Rotary overseas. Learn more about the club here: http://rotarylancaster.org/ The meal will be buffet style and is free to students but bar drinks and tea and coffee will have to be paid for at the bar. Students will be expected to talk briefly about themselves, their studies and their future plans. Transport for this event will be provided by the University. This event is open to 25 international students and as places are limited they will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The sign-up sheet for this event will be available at The Base in University House from 1st February 2012.

FilmClub for International Students
Tuesdays at 5pm in Ash House
FilmClub is an informal class for international students. We watch representative British films with English subtitles so that it is easier to follow the unfamiliar accents. Vocabulary sheets are provided. There is a chance to socialise before the film over a cup of tea and a biscuit and discussion about the film will take place afterwards.
