Campus Facilities

The list below provides information about some facilities available.

Centre for Enterprise, Employability and Careers (CEEC)

The Careers Service at Lancaster has a great deal of literature about mature students entering employment and strategy books to give guidance on presenting yourself and your experiences. They also have a available a useful booklet entitled "Mature Students - The Way Forward". For more information contact an adviser in the Careers Office Tel: (01524) 592483 or 592482. To see a Careers Adviser call into the Careers Office between 10.00 am - 4.00 pm in term-time (more limited hours out of undergraduate term time) or ring on the above number to make an appointment. See 'All Students > Support Network > Careers' from the menu.

College Facilities

Most colleges have rooms available for off campus students - please see the menu for information.

Half-term play groups

The Students' Union Advice Centre will provide information about a half-term play scheme at Dallas Road Kids’ Club for children of primary school age. See the Students' Union Advice Centre for further details nearer to half-term.

Lockers

Since many mature students do not live on campus, it is possible to rent a locker in some colleges. The system for obtaining lockers varies from college to college so please check with the college secretary when you have been assigned to a college.

Mature Students’ Society

The Society relies on mature students to become involved and organise events / trips during the year. There is an opportunity to arrange this at the Societies during Freshers’ Week. Joining this society is one way of making contact with other mature students.

Nappy changing facilities

There is a room with nappy changing facilities in the Furness Foyer area.

Students Union: www.lusu.co.uk

The Students’ Union has a non-sabbatical officer for mature students. This is a current mature student who has been elected to promote the interests of other mature students. The Officer this year is Marianne Lane and she can be contacted for information and advice via the Students’ Union on 01524 93765

Temporary accommodation / Off-Campus

If you have to travel some distance to campus for a lecture, and have another lecture the following day, there is a possibility of getting a room on campus for the night. Check with your college office and if a room available you can use it for a small charge. It is more difficult to find an empty room in Michaelmas and Lent terms, in which case you can book a single guest room at a student rate. You will have to balance this cost against convenience and travel costs.
