Absence from Studies
If your academic department seeks confirmation of reasons for an absence from your studies you need to follow the correct procedure in order to save your time (and money) and that of the Doctor.
Self Certification of Academic Absence
Medical Evidence - If requested by your department following self certification above. If your absence covers a period of longer than one week, your department will usually require medical evidence of any illness.
Go to your doctors and request they provide you with a doctor's medical certificate, you will need to pay the charge imposed for this service. (Currently the University Medical Practice charges £16.00 for a Doctor's Medical Certificate, payable in cash only.) The doctor's practice will contact you when the certificate is ready for your collection.
Please note that a medical certificate is a straightforward statement of fact only. If the department require a letter or more detailed information (not a basic medical certificate) the cost is likely to be higher.
