Complaints and Appeals
The University has a system for responding to student complaints in as timely and effective a fashion as possible. Students should refer to the complaints procedures for detailed information.
If you need advice and representation with a complaint or appeal you can contact the LUSU advice centre (http://www.lusu.co.uk/advice) or Student Based Services (see 'contact us')
Beyond the University, recent legislation has introduced an ombudsman for higher education, an Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA). This superseded the visitorial system in January 2005. The role of the OIA is to review the procedures used by the University to consider a complaint or appeal, about which the student alleges non-compliance with the University’s published procedures. The role of the OIA is not to re-hear the evidence and/or argument of a student’s complaint or appeal, nor will the OIA consider a case from a student who has not already made full use of the University’s internal procedures for complaint, review or appeal. Further details of the OIA may be consulted at http://www.oiahe.org.uk
