Writing for International Students in Science, Health and Medicine
This course, run in Michaelmas Term, is for international students (undergraduates and taught postgraduate students) in the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Health and Medicine.
The five workshops aim to help you to develop more effective scientific writing skills. We look at:
- Writing essays in science: addressing the question, introductions, conclusions, developing an argument, paragraphs and topic sentences
- Writing scientific reports: report structure, writing an effective abstract, scientific language and grammar
- How to report other scientists' work: citation, referencing, summarising source material and avoiding plagiarism
Weeks 7-10 are run as a tutorial group, in which you can bring your questions and extracts from your assignment for discussion and feedback.
