Promoting Women in Science
The Athena SWAN Charter is a scheme which recognises and celebrates good employment practice for women working in science, engineering and technology (SET) in higher education and research.

Bronze Award
In 2008 Lancaster University won its first Bronze Award.
the bronze award was successfully renewed in 2012.
Silver Award
Plans are underway to submit an application for a Silver award. Lancaster's case for silver will set out the positive changes that have been made in areas such as:
- Promotion and career development
- Support for staff at key career transition points
- Flexible working
- Working culture
- Recruitment of staff
- Representation on decision-making committees
- Cover for maternity and adoption leave and support on return
- Timing of departmental meetings and social gatherings
- Outreach activities
- Induction and training
- Support for female students

Bronze Award Success
We're please to report that Lancaster University has been successful in its recent submission to renew the University's Athena Swan bronze award for promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology subjects. This is an important achievement for the University and provides a platform for moving ahead towards future silver submissions.

British Federation of Women Graduates scholarships
The British Federation of Women Graduates gives awards annually to women in their third year of doctoral studies. The awards are given on the basis of evidence of academic excellence. Usually, five or six awards are given, ranging upwards from £1000 with the average award being around £3000. More information

L'Oréal UK and Ireland Fellowships For Women In Science
These awards aim to promote and encourage the contribution of women pursuing research careers in science. Four awards will be made to early-career researchers. The deadline for applications is Friday 23 March. Find out more
