The initial meeting of the SciTech Graduate School Forum will take place over an informal lunch on Monday 3 December from 12.30-1.30pm.
Contract Researchers are welcome to join the forum. The faculty is keen to allow both research students and contract research staff the chance to say what they would like from the SciTech Graduate School and the type of activities they would like to happen. If you are interested in attending please contact Doctoral Development Programme Coordinator Rebecca Whitehead.
If you are in the fourth year or beyond of your PhD you may be interested in coming along to this new group. This is a space to have a chat to people who are in a similar position and get some support with writing up. Drinks and cake will be provided in the LEC atrium on Wednesday 28 November from 10.30-11.30am.
The Postgraduate Statistics Centre is offering funding of up to £5,000 each for five mini-projects, to commence in January 2008, themed around teaching and learning postgraduate statistics.
The PSC is keen to develop its support for the teaching and learning of postgraduate statistics students and has introduced this scheme to enable staff to experiment with innovative ideas.

Welcome to Kate Jolley, who is the faculty's new HR partner.

As well as talks from all departments and a poster session at which 40 posters from across the faculty will be displayed, guest speakers will include Professor Swapan Chattopadhyay, Director of The Cockroft Institute.
ESRC have agreed funding of up to £1.2 million for a research methods centre node in the statistical modelling of social science data.
The bid, led by Brian Francis (Applied Statistics) and Charlie Lewis ( Psychology), will involve staff from Statistics, Medicine, Sociology, Applied Social Science and Psychology from Lancaster, Warwick and Stirling universities.
The research programme will involve the modelling of developmental change in criminal activity, in childhood development and in the changing attitudes of individuals over time. There is also a strong training and capacity building component.
