The next session in this programme will take place on Thursday 19 June from 12.30-2.00pm in the Senior Common Room, Fylde. It will focus on 'thinking about your work as projects' and will give tips on how a project management approach can be useful for organising administrative activities.
The session will be facilitated by Margaret Siverns, who is a tutor on CETAD's Project Management Certificate Programme.

On Wednesday 21 May, FST ran a highly successful media training session for scientists. This was the second session offered in collaboration with the Royal Society and tutored by leading journalists and science communication professionals Judith Hann and John Exelby. Academic staff from across the faculty participated in a highly interactive programme that used a professional film crew to develop skills for radio and TV.
Our first ever training session for PIs took place on Thursday 29 May. Participants came from the departments of Computing, Communication Systems, Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics and Environmental Science.
FST's HR partner and colleagues from the Professional and Leadership Development Team contributed to the day which covered topics including recruitment, fixed-term contracts and professional development. One participant reported that 'this was a real eye-opener in terms of my responsibility towards contract research staff'. Look out for more sessions for PIs in the future!

A newly formed Professions Network set up by James Faulconbridge (Geography), David Sugarman (Law), Rajshree Prakesh (LUMS) and Anne Garden (Department of Medicine) aims to bring together Lancaster academics interested in the professions in the broadest sense. This could include occupations such as medicine, law etc, but also the concepts of professionalism, professionalisation, the professional service firm and other topics.
If you would like to be part of the network please email James Faulconbridge. The network's founders envisage an initial meeting early in the summer and hope to be able to confirm funding for a seminar series in the near future.
