Pulsars, or neutron stars, are some of the most bizarre objects in the galaxy. Come and hear about their discovery 40 years ago which took the astronomical community by surprise. This talk will be given by Professor Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell on Wednesday 8 April at 4pm. The lecture will be held in the Management School Building Lecture Theatre 1 and will be followed by a light reception.
Jocelyn Bell Burnell currently holds a Visiting Professorship in astrophysics at the University of Oxford and is a Professorial Fellow at Mansfield College, Oxford. She was Professor of Physics at the Open University for ten years, and had a year as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Princeton University, USA.

The University would like to hold focus groups regarding language courses external to the University. These focus groups hope to explore the way that such language courses can support staff in professional development, and how they can assist students in their studies and future employability.
Staff and student volunteers are needed. If you are interested and want to have your opinions heard, please contact Jennifer Clark (ext. 10851) by Tuesday 31 March. It is hoped that the focus groups will be scheduled for the first week of Summer Term (w/c 20th April).
Nominations are invited for this new faculty prize which aims to reward and incentivise inspirational teaching at either an undergraduate or postgraduate level. The £1000 prize is open to individual or small teams of early career staff in FST who are within their first 5 years of appointment to a lecturing post (full-time or part-time staff). Applications should be based upon a record of teaching and supporting learning within the Faculty of Science and Technology at Lancaster University.
Nominations can be made by any member of the faculty (staff, students and the nominee(s)).

Google AdWords is a means of displaying relevant paid-for adverts, based on user-specified keywords and budget, alongside Google's regular search results.
This workshop, taking place on Friday 20 March from 10.30-11.30 in Room B9 of the Whewell Building, will present a case study based on recent Google campaigns run by The Division of Health Research, followed by a brief discussion of what you would need to consider before setting up a campaign of your own.
The session will be limited to 15 additional attendees, so please reserve your place by contacting Steve Wright in Health Research.
The EPSRC is planning a number of changes to the way it handles funding applications and its peer review process.
