Reaction to the news on video
Lancaster's Professor Roger Jones recorded two videos for the University's press office. In the first he discusses the atmosphere at CERN in the run-up to the announcement; in the second he talks about the significance of the announcement.
Meanwhile, students from Lancaster University Physics and Astronomy Society (LUPAS) were at CERN with their video camera to capture the announcement itself and some immediate reaction to the news.
Science and Technology Taster Day 2012
Our eighth Science and Technology Taster Day saw over 220 students from 12 schools around the North West visiting Lancaster University to get a taste of what it might be like to study Science and Technology at a top university.

Making Professor event
On Tuesday 25 September the University will be holding its third Making Professor event about academic promotion, career development and the benefits of flexible and inclusive working practices.
This event, which will be opened by the Vice Chancellor and will include invited internal and external speakers as well as break-out discussion sessions, is part of the University's Athena SWAN (Charter for women in science, engineering and technology) Action Plan.
It is aimed at female academics, Heads of Department, new academics, researchers and everyone interested in equality and diversity in academic career development.
