Science and Technology Internship Programme
A new internship programme has been developed to provide Science and Technology students with the opportunity to gain paid, relevant work experience within a business and help them achieve graduate employment.
Full time 2-3 month summer internships will run between July and September. Part-time internships will also be available all year round at varying durations which will fit around student's academic requirements and the business' needs.
Students can register their interest and apply for internships online.
New Facebook and Twitter accounts have been created by Student Employability Manager Pam Pickles to alert students to new vacancies. Pam explains, "I am delighted to be working with staff and students from across Science and Technology and hope all staff encourage their students to register."
Lancaster University Early Career Small Grants
Half of the 2012/2013 grants awarded were won by Science and Technology researchers, accounting for 55% of the available funding. Congratulations to:

Opening of £9.8m Centre for Global Eco-Innovation
The Centre for Global Eco-Innovation was officially launched on Monday 4th March by entrepreneur and former Science Minister Lord Drayson of Kensington. The centre, part financed by the European Regional Development Fund, is a joint initiative between Lancaster University, the University of Liverpool and Inventya Ltd to develop eco-innovative products and services.
Lord Drayson said: "I'm delighted to see Lancaster and Liverpool, two of our top research universities, working with Inventya Ltd in the vanguard of this green technological revolution. We have the brains, the science and the technology to lead this green tech revolution and I'm convinced that the scientists, technologists and entrepreneurs in this room will achieve great things through working together over the next few years."
The launch was attended by over 250 people including academics and students from both universities, public bodies and local businesses, as well as Lancaster University's Vice Chancellor and the University of Liverpool's Director of Partnerships and Innovation who were among those speaking at the event.
First Science and Technology Business and Industry Seminar Success
On Wednesday, over 50 staff, students, and alumni from across the university met with businesses at the first Science and Technology Business and Industry Seminar - The Journey to a Smarter City by Rashik Parmar, President of IBM's Academy of Technology.
The next seminar, How Unilever Finds Technology Partners by Roger Leech, Unilever's Discover Operations & Science Grid Director, is on Wednesday 20th March. Lunch is available 1pm-2pm, followed by the seminar 2pm-3pm, which will give examples of the organisation's innovation challenges and how it finds partners and networks to work on solutions from academia, businesses, NGOs and governments.

Business Partnerships and Enterprise Films
Five short films are now available online which highlight the different types of collaborative working between the faculty and business. These films include interviews with academics, students and businesses explaining how they have benefited from collaborations.
A guide is also available which explains how to embed these films into presentations.
Student Wellbeing Services Training Event: Dyslexia Awareness in Higher Education
The British Dyslexia Association is running an on-campus training event on Dyslexia Awareness in Higher Education during the morning of Monday 29 April.
Any Lancaster University staff who are involved in supporting students with dyslexia can attend. The session will include:
- An overview of dyslexia
- The impact of dyslexia in Higher Education
- How various staff in Higher Education can support dyslexic students
- How academic staff can help dyslexic students in how they design their teaching and assessment practices
- Practical advice and guidance on supporting undergraduate and postgraduate students

Staff Development opportunity: Induction into Online Learning and moderating
Organisation and Educational Development (OED) is offering a three-week introduction to online learning and teaching and using Moodle course.
This course will be taught online on the Moodle VLE, with main activities running 15 April to 3 May. It will introduce the core features of the Moodle VLE, including different ways of setting up and presenting forums for different effects, using choices, groups and activity completion and different ways of using wikis.

With the help of the Enterprise Team at Lancaster University and access to funding opportunities, Greg has been able to purchase vital equipment to help him expand his business.
