Collaborative research and consultancy

Security Lancaster is an interdisciplinary initiative bringing together Lancaster University’s leading security experts in order to deliver cutting edge research and develop novel solutions to help solve the problems facing industry and governments in protecting people, systems, and infrastructure, thus providing confidence in securing assets and therefore helping to underpin economic growth.

It is our ability to draw on the expertise of academics from across the Faculties of the university that allows us to bring a wide range of disciplines to bear on security and protection issues. The combination of academic disciplines from Psychology, Computing and Communications, Social Science, Management, Politics, or Engineering enables Lancaster to innovate in flexible and pioneering ways.

We can cater for a range of collaborative requirements from delivery contract research and consultancy to help tackle your immediate operational issues to more long term interdisciplinary exploratory research of emergent security areas.

Training and Education

Our strong research and consultancy expertise is matched by our high quality training and education capability. Whether your requirements are for a bespoke continual professional development package or for more formal academic undergraduate and postgraduate education, we have a proven track record in delivering flexible modular education programmes that provide the skill sets.

An example of this is our Masters programme in Cyber Security that draws upon the expertise from across the university to deliver a multidisciplinary programme to educate the next generation of security specialists. The programme contains modules from, the School of Computing and Communications, Politics, Criminology, Law and Psychology.

Co-location and Secondment

There are a variety of opportunities for businesses from the security sector to co-locate at Lancaster University. Locating an office on the university grounds, whether in the Lancaster Environment Centre or in InfoLab21, will enable your company to take advantage of the cutting edge research, knowledge and facilities thus facilitating faster business growth.

In addition, we are keen to encourage security practitioners from around the world to take 'time out' and work with our experts to develop new approaches for their particular area and organisational sector. During a secondment a secondee will be embedded with a lead academic department which will facilitate access to the multi-disciplinary research resources that the university has to offer. Often the secondee will work closely with one or more academics to produce a 'product' that is useful for their parent organisation and that is grounded in the evidence-based research.

Student Placements

We evaluate the needs of each business and match these to the appropriate student resource across Science and Technology.

Product Development and IPR

We have the benefit of being able to tap into the university’s experienced IPR experts to ensure that for every partnership we enter into, any IPR issues are addressed and agreed amongst all parties involved.

Conferences

Security

Cyber security has been identified by the UK government as a key threat that businesses of all sizes will face over the coming years. In response, InfoLab21 hosted a regional Cyber Security Conference, the first of its kind, in partnership with the ICT KTN on 19 September 2011 to help businesses think about how to respond to this threat.
