Additive Manufacturing/3D Printing

Additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, describes the process of producing component parts by building up particles of material layer-by-layer using a computer controlled machine fed directly from a 3D computer image. This process allows for simplified production of parts containing complicated geometry as well as the financial benefits of not requiring any tooling.

We run workshops and master classes which provide an overview of additive manufacturing technologies and associated business benefits and show how the technology is being used by large and small organisations to bring new products to market across a range of industries.

Postgraduate Certificate in Competence in REACH Registration

The Centre for Chemicals Management provides a range of training workshops to aid companies in their regulatory compliance. REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals), is a major piece of legislation concerned with the way chemicals are manufactured, used and managed. The new REACH regulations are highly complex and can be demanding, time consuming and expensive for companies to effectively interpret and implement. This REACH course has been designed to advise industry on the REACH and Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) regulations and outline the different stages in the process and activities that must be completed in order to successfully register substances and continue trading in the EU.

Postgraduate Certificate in Energy and Fuels from Waste (EFFW)

Energy and Fuels from Waste

Drawing on the expertise of practicing professionals and academics, this three module course gives an overview of waste management practices in the UK. It provides a detailed examination of waste feedstock treatments, energy and fuel generation technologies and current and emerging policy drivers in the energy and fuels from waste sector

Mark Dawber, a Landfill Gas Engineer for Viridor, was part of the 2012 cohort: “As a relatively new employee in the waste industry, I was looking for a course which would develop my understanding of the Energy from Waste (EfW) sector and the EFFW course at Lancaster did not disappoint. As well as providing a detailed assessment of the key technologies and feedstocks, the course developed a practical understanding of the legal and environmental obligations and challenges which face the EfW sector. The course was effectively delivered by a range of industry experts, which was complemented by relevant and interesting site visits.”

Cyber Security training to educate the next generation of security specialists is delivered by Security Lancaster, which is one of only eight organisations in the UK and the only one in the north of England and Scotland to receive Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research status by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and Government Communications Headquarters.

We offer tailored progression routes ranging from Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, MSc to doctoral level. We support part time students already in industry and those who want to study full time and gain mastery of the subject within one year. Training is built upon the industry recognized programmes embedded into the curriculum such as CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker) and CHFI (Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator) to gain industry certified qualifications.
