SUMMARY:How Unilever Finds Technology Partners
DESCRIPTION:Unilever R&D has the task of finding and delivering science and technology solutions for a range of products covering personal care, home care, foods and refreshment. Today many of these solutions are related to the environmental impact of the business, and the creation of the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan sets the challenges and targets for Unilever to reduce their environmental impact while they grow the business. The talk will give examples of these challenges and how Unilever finds partners and networks to work on solutions from academia, businesses, NGOs and governments.\n\nRoger Leech is the Unilever Discover Operations & Science Grid Director. In addition to covering the operations of the science and technology activities he is also responsible for building longer term partnerships with key academic groups globally. He represents Unilever on the CBI Academic Relations Group. Prior to July 2012 he was the Open Innovation Director for Portfolio and Scouting where he covered the overall OI budget and success metrics, academic strategic alliances and had a team of technology scouts in the six Unilever Global Laboratories supporting technology scouting for the business. He joined Unilever in 1976 after graduating in bacteriology and virology since when he has been involved in a number of research areas that led to working as the personal assistant to two Unilever Research Directors. His driving interest is the harnessing and delivery of new science and technology. He is married with two grown up daughters and spends a lot of his spare time hill and mountain walking with his wife.\n\n\nWatch the talk\n
