SUMMARY:Water saving agriculture and food security in China
DESCRIPTION:Tea/coffee will be served from 10am.\n\nThe seminar will be followed by a brief discussion of Food Security research strategy at Lancaster.\n\nProfessor Kang will receive an Honorary Degree from Lancaster on 13th July in recognition of his work on Water Saving Agriculture.\n\nProfessor Kang Shaozhong is a specialist in agricultural water management who works to secure the livelihoods of agricultural communities in some of the world's driest regions. Ensuring food security for a rapidly growing world population is one of the greatest challenges facing humankind. Professor Kang is a pioneer in the development of the concept and practice of water-saving agriculture. Through the development of novel agricultural systems and methods of water application in agriculture, his work contributes significantly to the provision of secure and safe supplies of food and to the protection of some of the most fragile natural environments in China. As a Professor at China Agricultural University, he has active collaborations with Lancaster and other world-leading Universities. He advises the Chinese government on policies for water management and agricultural practice.
