SUMMARY:Centre for Global Eco-Innovation Showcase
DESCRIPTION:The Centre for Global Eco-Innovation brings together the expertise, resources and global contacts of Lancaster University and the University of Liverpool, together with international commercialisation consultancy Inventya Limited to undertake SME-led collaborative R&D partnerships. The centre was officially launched at this event by Lord Drayson of Kensington (the former UK Science Minister). Lord Drayson is a highly successful entrepreneur who built his profile from start-up businesses and the pharmaceutical sector. He now runs a high tech engineering business and has the first team to commit to the new FIA racing series Formula E for electric cars.\n\n\n\nA summary video of the launch event (4 minutes)\n\nAt the heart of the centre is a team of 50 graduates working on intensive three-year long collaborative research and development projects with Northwest SMEs. The graduates use these collaborations as the basis of a PhD programme of study and are supported by senior academic members of staff, all internationally-recognised experts in their fields. \n\nIn addition to these projects, the centre provides opportunities for up to 235 additional companies in the Northwest to be supported in their development of new products and services through shorter (3-6 month) collaborations with a partner university.\n\nThis showcase event began at 1:30pm with a buffet lunch and an exhibition from the 50 Northwest SMEs undertaking an intensive three-year long collaborative project as well as stands from all three partner organisations to showcase current research and to fully explain the next phase of the project and how Northwest SMEs can become involved and receive free assistance.\n\nAt 14:30 there were a series of talks focusing on Eco-Innovation:\n(Click to view the talks)\n\n\nWelcome address\nProfessor Mark E. The showcase offered an excellent chance to network with a wide range of SMEs, prominent academics in the field of eco-innovation and project staff who are more than happy to offer guidance and advice on bespoke assistance.\n\nThe project is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the aim is to enhance the absorptive capacity of SMEs for research and development.
