SUMMARY:Advances in energy and fuels from waste
DESCRIPTION:Building on the success of the Postgraduate Certificate in Energy and Fuels from Waste launched last year, Energy Lancaster is offering a free afternoon energy from waste event on Wednesday October 24th, 12:30 to 16:00 at Lancaster University's Environment Centre. The event is aimed at businesses of all sizes who would like to know more about the advances in energy and fuels from waste sector and the activities being conducted at Lancaster University in training and research. Lunch is provided.\n\nEnergy Lancaster brings together Lancaster University's world leading expertise in a wide range of energy related areas covering the demand and supply of energy, including carbon management, clean coal, energy and behavioural change, energy demand management and modelling, energy policy and economics, fuel cells, nuclear energy, photovoltaics and photocatalysis, transport and transport usage, wet renewables and wind energy.\n\n\n\nThe event is run in partnership with Stopford Energy and Environment, a division of Stopford Projects Ltd; a Lancaster Environment Centre based multidisciplinary engineering, energy, and environment consultancy with a wealth of renewable energy project management expertise. \n\n\n\n"Stopford believe the partnership with Energy Lancaster and the university delivers a long overdue training requirement to the energy from waste sector. As part of a wide multidisciplinary team, we can also draw on additional support from across Lancaster University and beyond.\n\n\nDr Andy Clarke\n\nI joined Lancaster University from Manchester University, where I was Manager of Nuclear Programmes in the School of Physics & Astronomy. I managed the Industrial Doctorate Centre in Nuclear Engineering, and the NTEC MSc in Nuclear Science and Technology. Both were consortium programmes with 8 and 12 academic partners respectively; Lancaster University is a member of both consortia. My focus was relationship building and commercialisation of education programmes. Previous to that, my experience has been based in a variety of science and technology domains in aerospace, steel, aluminium and materials science. At Lancaster my role initially will include building new corporate relationships and growing training and research partnerships.\n\n\nDr Ben Herbert\n\nBen was awarded his undergraduate degree in Environmental Chemistry from Lancaster University in 2001. Following the award of his PhD in 2005 he undertook a number of business development and consultancy roles which focused on commercialising activity in the chemicals and environmental technologies sectors. During this period Ben also conducted a number of industrial research projects with clients ranging from regional SMEs to blue-chip multinationals.\n\nBen joined Stopford Projects Ltd in 2008 and successfully developed a new R&D and environmental consultancy arm of the business. Ben now leads Stopford Energy and Environment Ltd, delivering green technology, waste, energy generation and low carbon projects in the UK and overseas. Ben is also an Honorary Research Fellow at Lancaster University, an active member of regional and national environmental advisory groups and co-supervises a number of industry led postgraduate research projects.\n\n\nDr Sean Hayward\n\nSean holds Honours and Masters degrees in Environmental Science plus a PhD in Atmospheric Science awarded by Lancaster University. He also has considerable post-doctoral experience including 2 years of atmospheric research in the arctic environment whilst based at Lund University, Sweden. Sean is also a qualified science teacher.\n\nIn 2008, Sean joined the energy sector, taking a post as Project Manager with an energy agency in the South West of England. He subsequently joined Stopford as Energy and Environmental Consultant. In this role, he provides technical, economic and regulatory input to a number of projects that Stopford are currently involved with. In addition, Sean is currently leading the development of a new CPD training programme entitled 'PG-Cert in Energy and Fuels from Waste', which is a co-venture with Lancaster University.\n\n
