Speaker: Prof Randy Parrish (NERC Isotope Geosciences Lab, BGS Keyworth).
Controversy surrounds the ethics and alleged consequences to health and the environment of the use of uranium-based anti-tank munitions in the Gulf Wars. This lecture will outline the background to this politically-charged topic, and show how laboratory-based measurements of uranium can help resolve fact from fiction and help to guide policy. Prof Randy Parrish is the Science Coordinator for Depleted Uranium Research of the Natural Environment Research Council and has presented his findings to the UK Ministry of Defence and the US House of Representatives Committee on Science and Technology.
