"Improving grapevine water efficiency with rootstocks"
Dr Everard Edwards (CSIRO Plant Industry, Adelaide, Australia)
Thursday 26 July 2012, 1300-1400
LEC Training Room 1
LEC Seminar
"Irrigation of agricultural crops accounts for over 70% of all fresh water diversions. Climate change and the increasing awareness of the environmental impact of removing water from river systems requires ever greater water use efficiency from irrigated horticulture. Viticulture has particular requirements as both increasing yields per hectare and breeding more water use efficient varieties are generally not options available to growers. The use of rootstocks offers an opportunity to bypass these restrictions. This talk will discuss the impact of rootstock imparted differences in "vigour" on the water use efficiency of mature, field grown, vines and the possible mechanisms behind them."
All welcome!
