The Chancellor of Sunway University College, Malaysia Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Dato' Seri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah AO, conferred degrees on 86 students who make up the first full cohort on the dual Lancaster/Sunway degree during Sunway's degree ceremonies on October 9th 2009.

Attending the graduation ceremony for the first time was Lancaster University's Vice Chancellor Professor Paul Wellings.

The students graduated with degrees in Computing, Psychology and Business.

Professor Wellings said: " I am delighted to be here in Malaysia to celebrate the results of the Lancaster/Sunway partnership. I am particularly pleased that 80% of the cohort have received a higher second or first class degree. These results are a real tribute to the quality of the students and the hard work that they have put in and give the students a real advantage in realising their future ambitions."

Lancaster University and Sunway University College have also launched a number of jointly delivered postgraduate degrees starting this year.

There are currently approximately 1000 students enrolled on degree programmes in Accounting and Finance, Business and Management, IT, Psychology, Hospitality Management and Tourism. Students study at Sunway, but are awarded a degree from both institutions.

Lancaster University welcomed the first Chancellors' Scholars, Tay Ee Lin and Chan Jinn Yep from Sunway College, Malaysia , on a two-week study visit in March this year.

The trip provided an opportunity for the outstanding Sunway students to get a glimpse of campus life at Lancaster University and learn about British culture and heritage. The students also visited departments relevant to their studies and experienced how lectures and tutorials are conducted at Lancaster.
