Major Expansion Underway for Engineering at Lancaster
Lancaster University has announced a significant investment to build on its strengths in Engineering with the creation of twelve 'new blood' full-time appointments.
In addition to strengthening current areas of international standing in mechanical, electrical and electronic, manufacturing, mechatronic, materials and control engineering, strategic growth is planned in chemical engineering, with four of the new appointments to concentrate on this area.
Lancaster's Engineering Department, recently ranked fifth in the UK for Mechanical Engineering in the Guardian University Guide, leads the Faculty's strategic focus Energy Lancaster, and also hosts a number of strategic research activities in clean combustion, marine renewable energy, microelectronics and nanotechnology, nuclear engineering and particle accelerator engineering.
Head of Engineering, Professor Malcolm Joyce, said: "These are truly exciting times for Engineering and especially at Lancaster University. This investment provides a fantastic opportunity for Engineering at Lancaster, and will almost double the department's scale."

It is well known that Geography graduates are highly employable and use their degrees in many different ways. One of the more unusual we have heard about recently is Lancaster geographer Greg Tomaszewicz who has set up his own Video Production Company - Lanor Productions.

First Science and Technology Business Partnerships and Enterprise Annual Report 2011-2012 available to download now
2011-2012 saw the development of a new theme-based strategy for Business Partnerships and Enterprise in Science and Technology. The seven interdisciplinary themes are: Advanced Manufacturing, Energy, Environment, Health and Human Development, Information and Communication Technologies, Quantum Technology and Security. Each theme has dedicated professional staff to work with businesses and source the expertise they need.

Lancaster University Coffeemat Challenge won by Science and Technology student Seb
The concept of a new university website, complete with mobile application, to capture the campus social scene at a glance, earned an enterprising student an iPad.
