Andy comments, "I joined LEC from Manchester University, where I was Manager of Nuclear Programmes in the School of Physics & Astronomy. I managed the Industrial Doctorate Centre in Nuclear Engineering, and the NTEC MSc in Nuclear Science & Technology. Both were consortium programmes with 8 and 12 academic partners respectively; Lancaster University is a member of both consortia. My focus was relationship building and commercialisation of education programmes. Previous to that, my experience has been based in a variety of science and technology domains in aerospace, steel, aluminium and materials science. Within EBP, my role initially will include building new corporate relationships and growing training and research Partnerships. Dr Andy Pickard has taken up the post of Manager of the Centre for Global Eco-Innovation (CGE) based in LEC. The centre brings together the expertise, resources and global reach of Lancaster University and the University of Liverpool, together with international commercialisation consultancy Inventya Ltd.

Andy comments, "I'm delighted to join such a prestigious university and I'm proud to lead further initiatives which allow Lancaster University and the University of Liverpool to enhance their reputations as key providers of business development, innovation and knowledge exchange across the North West of England. Previously working for the Department of the Environment I was delivering a European funded programme to support growth and regeneration. Prior to that I worked in the private sector in commercial and marketing roles for a number of businesses across a variety of sectors. A chemist by training, my own PhD was conducted in an interdisciplinary environment working on a project with a business and a university and I am delighted to be part of a centre that brings together businesses and graduates in a similar way on a large scale.

"Over 50 leading high-growth science and technology businesses have now been partnered up with experts at Lancaster University and the University of Liverpool. We have recruited some exceptional graduates from the UK and overseas to work on environmental projects, for example, quantifying GHG emissions in business supply chains, evaluating a mass spectrometer to reveal ancient carbon in glacier systems and optimizing nutrient efficiency in crop production. The centre also offers shorter-term collaborations of 3-6 months and business mentoring for businesses with ambition to realise significant export markets.
