Alumni MSc student wins best postgraduate poster at VMSG 2013 Conference
John Browning
Congratulations to recent LEC MSc graduate John Browning, who was awarded the Geoff Brown prize for best postgraduate poster presentation at the Volcanic and Magmatic Studies Group (VMSG) 2013 conference in Bristol for his research on vesiculation of rhyolitic melt. Click here to see his presentation.
John Browning completed an MSc in Volcanology and Geological Hazards. A Unique MSc that allows you to study amongst one of the largest groups of volcanologists and environmental scientists in the UK. Training in volcanology encompasses field, theoretical and laboratory components, with visits to study volcanic rocks in the nearby Lake District and a popular optional fieldtrip to Etna.

Researchers from Durham and Lancaster Universities suggest that a foetus's ability to show a "pain" facial expression is a developmental process which could potentially give doctors another index of the health of a foetus.

Engineering students make finals of national start-up business competition
