A Businesswoman based in the Lancaster Environment Centre has won a prestigious award for green businesses.
Becky Toal, who runs both Sustainable Events and Crowberry Consulting, was one of the winners at the North West Business Environment Awards, held at the prestigious Bridgewater Hall in Manchester on Thursday, June 26.
The North West Business Environment Awards are held annually to recognise innovation and environmental leadership across the North West, and are supported by the Mersey Basin Campaign and the Northwest Regional Development Agency.
Sustainable Events Ltd, a sister company to Crowberry Consulting Ltd which is based at the Lancaster Environment Centre, was runner up in the Sustainable Procurement category of the awards.
Sustainable Events Ltd was created by Becky Toal, Managing Director of Crowberry Consulting and Fiona Pelham, Managing Director of Organise This in 2007.
The business provides an online tool which takes event planners through an eight-step process designed to ensure their event stands up to sustainability tests. It offers a built in carbon footprint calculator and provides signposting to sources of free environmental advice.

It is well known that Geography graduates are highly employable and use their degrees in many different ways. One of the more unusual we have heard about recently is Lancaster geographer Greg Tomaszewicz who has set up his own Video Production Company - Lanor Productions.

First Science and Technology Business Partnerships and Enterprise Annual Report 2011-2012 available to download now
2011-2012 saw the development of a new theme-based strategy for Business Partnerships and Enterprise in Science and Technology. The seven interdisciplinary themes are: Advanced Manufacturing, Energy, Environment, Health and Human Development, Information and Communication Technologies, Quantum Technology and Security. Each theme has dedicated professional staff to work with businesses and source the expertise they need.
