Speed pitching yields major success for ETS companies
The Lancaster Environment Centre recently hosted the Northwest Innovation Network (NWIN) Business Pitch event for the region's energy and environmental technology sector. The event provided over 25 companies with a 90 second opportunity to pitch their business idea to a room full of companies and other organisations from across the sector.
The purpose of the event was to stimulate active networking amongst the regions increasingly important prioirty sector as part of a 12 month programme of events focusing on other sectors which have been held across the north west region. The events help companies to work to identify potential new business partners and share experience in the commercialisation and development of new environmental goods and services.
Graham Harris, Director of LEC, the event's chair - keeping an eager pitcher to time!
Run by the North West Innovation Network, sponsored by Envirolink Northwest, the Joule Centre (Manchester University) and facilitated by the Lancaster Environment Centre, the day saw over 25 companies pitching to over 80 people in attendance. Companies were able to get a unique chance to hear first hand, the technologies and innovations available from some of the leading companies in the North West.
"Probably the most profitable 90 seconds I have ever had", commented Mike Matthews, Managing Director of Peak Associates Environmental Consultants, "I thought it was very well put together, the clock at the back worked well and most people kept to time. We now have one strategic partnership being formed and two leads for new work".
As well as private sector companies, there were also a collection of public organisations there who also found great value in the day, Craig Sillars from UK Trade & Investment explains: "As it transpired the pitch time of 90 seconds seemed spot on with many finishing early. The format is excellent - with such a good turnout people could quickly identify who may be able to benefit their own business - something that can be hit and miss in a traditional networking event".
LEC will be hosting another NWIN business pitch this time aimed more specifically at just the Environmental Technologies sector on Tuesday 29th June 2010.
