Jim Freer Joins 'HYdrological cycle in the Mediterranean Experiment' Team
Jim Freer has been invited to join the International Scientific Steering Committee of HyMeX (HYdrological cycle in the Mediterranean EXperiment). HyMeX aims at developing a major experimental project including enhanced and special observation periods to address the main issues related to the water cycle in Mediterranean, with emphases put on high-impact weather events, inter-annual to decadal variability of the Mediterranean coupled system and associated trend in the context of global change. The HyMeX project plans the monitoring of the relevant atmospheric, oceanic, hydrological and bio-chemical variables during a long observation period (2010-2020) with additional and dedicated ground-based, shipborne and airborne means in 2011-2012.

How do we find out about cyber criminals?
Security Lancaster and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics held a workshop to form a new collaborative group who will widen the knowledge of cybercrime and start developing innovative approaches to obtaining information on cyber criminals. The workshop included security researchers and statisticians, solicitors specialising in cybercrime, and experts from government agencies.
