LEC researcher wins best publication award
Dr Luca Nizzetto received the Eurofins Award for the best publication in the field of chemical analysis and environmental monitoring at the 19th Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) Europe meeting.
The award was for his publication on "Seasonality of the Air-Forest Canopy Exchange of Persistent Organic Pollutants" by Luca Nizzetto, Andrew Jarvis, Kevin C. Jones and Antonio Di Guardo, published in 2008 in Environmental Science and Technology 42 (23), 8778-8783.
In this paper a mathematical basis for dynamic modelling of the fate of POPs (persistent organic pollutants) in the environment is presented. The framework and results of the study should be useful when incorporating vegetation compartments in regional or global fate dynamic models.
Luca currently works in LEC on a Marie Curie Intra European Fellowship.
The topic of the research is to investigate the coupling of C cycle with the cycle of persistent organic pollutants in terrestrial and marine environments.
